Overview

Mellieħa is one of Malta`s most picturesque tourist destination.It is both a rural village and tourist resort in the north western part of the island.The village centre boasts some of the finest restaurants and traditional little shops.The local residents are renowned for their hospitality and friendliness.

This village has been officially recognised as a destination of excellence in the year 2009 by the European Union, primarily because of it sustainable approach to tourism.

Besides the major beaches linked to Mellieħa this village is dominated by the majestic baroque church which was built in the late 19th century.It is dedicated to our lady of Victory and every year on the 8th of September the feast is celebrated with various cultural manifestations such as musical concerts,band marches, folk singing, fireworks and the traditional procession.

Mellieħa boasts the best beaches on the island, from Mellieħa Bay to Paradise Bay to Armier and little Armier, as well as Golden Sands and Riviera Beach. Apart from the beaches there are beautiful walking trails that are found in the vicinity of Mellieħa which also compliment this village for those who would enjoy long walks

Mellieħa is the ideal place to spend a holiday as it offers a lot of touristic attractions together with breathtaking views of lush valleys and the blue mediterranean sea.

Mellieha Bay

Mellieħa Bay is one of the most popular sandy beaches on the island and is suitable for sunbathing and swimming.It is also safe for children to play as well. One, can also hire and have fun on the banana boats and pedal boats at this resort.

Various other watersports can be tried including sailing, water skiing, paragliding, wake boarding, jet biking and kayaking. This pretty resort has some fantastic places to explore making it a great place for hiking, horseback riding and cycling.

Nature lovers may like to pay a visit to Għadira Nature Reserve, which has a variety of small mammals, lizards and migratory birds. Mellieħa has a lot of interesting buildings including Mellieħa Parish Church and old farmhouses.

Weather in Mellieħa, Malta

The warmest time of the year to visit Malta is generally July and August when the average high is approximately 32 degrees centigrade.

January and February are the coolest months with an average high of 16 degrees centigrade and average lows of 10C.

There is very little rainfall in Malta especially in summer. The wettest months are generally from November through to February.

Malta International Airport

Malta International Airport (MLA) is the only airport in Malta and receives flights all year round from many cities in Europe and the UK.

Mellieħa is approximately a 40 minute drive from the airport and this can now also be reached by the local bus service
